In the middle of the climate crisis with suffering and deadly consequences already being experienced around the world, especially by the most vulnerable among us; a wealthy Christian denominational investment agency asked climate scientists and climate justice advocates: “What must be done to avoid climate chaos and the death of billions of people and millions of species of other than human life?”

The climate scientists and climate justice advocates told the wealthy denominational investment agency that we must all move quickly away from using fossil fuels. The wealthy denominational investment agency responded: “But we can continue to invest hundreds of millions of the dollars in fossil fuel companies, right? So that we can have still have a seat at their tables?”

The climate scientists and climate justice advocates responded: “No, that is simply profiting off companies that are destroying a livable climate for humanity and other than human life. Sell all of your fossil fuel stocks and invest in activities that are cultivating a livable climate and justice for all. Then your treasure will be invested in the well-being of the community of all creation. It is time to turn over the tables of those who are profiting from the destruction of life on Earth.”

The wealthy denominational investment agency was dismayed at this statement and went away saddened, because it had so many investments in fossil fuels.

It seems more difficult for a wealthy denominational investment agency to divest from fossil fuels than it is for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle.
